FSRV Racing Boats
FSRVs are model racing boats more or less prototypes, because they
are built by their owner and in their final configuration they are
mostly unique models.
They all are propelled by a gas engine mostly using a mixture of
methanol, castor oil, synthetics and nitromethane. The large ones
also use standard 2-stroke fuel. Hulls are made from various
materials, wood, fiberglass-, kevlar- or carbon cloth and epoxy
resin.
There
are four categories, from 0 to 3,5cc, from 3,51 to 7,5cc, from 7,51
to 15cc and from more than 15cc to 35cc.
Form and dimensions are free, only engine displacement bounds the
classes. The level of noise is controlled, the winning pilot makes
the largest number of laps in the time assigned for the
race. Normally this is 15 or 20 minutes for qualification, and 30
minutes for the semi-finals and finals. The circuit is always the
same, with a lenght of 350 metres in M-shape, 5 buoys mark the
course, one in every bend and the fifth between two edges in the
upper part of the cirquit, forming a chicane.The long straight
measures 100 metres, the short straights 50 meters, and the one with
the chicane 150 metres.
